Hi Y'all, I'm Debbie!
I was born and raised on a farm in Centenary, SC. Mama and Daddy were both avid hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, so my addiction to hunting and fishing was in the genes. My young’un years were spent playing with my doggies, cats, and goats, making mud pies, setting pretend traps for varmints, and going fishing with Mama and Daddy. When I was six or seven, Daddy taught me how to aim and shoot his .22 pistol so I could kill turtles. This is where I gained my love of shooting. Somewhere around this time, Daddy gave me my first BB gun, and my days were filled with learning to properly shoot my first gun. In between learning to shoot my BB gun, I would fish for bass, crappie, bream, and mudfish in our black water cypress lake. Fishing has always been a lot of fun to me, and I’ve always loved being out on the water.
My first hunting experience, besides sitting with Daddy or Mama in the Deer stand and watching them shoot game was when I was 10 or 12. I went Squirrel hunting for the first time with Daddy and our Rat Terriers. The first time the dogs treed, I was hooked. What made it even better was I got to kill my first Squirrel with my .410. From then on, I went Squirrel hunting every season with Daddy.
The year of 2006 brought awesome things! In May of 2006, I graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Animal & Veterinary Sciences and with a Poultry Business concentration. After graduation, I moved to a farm in SC in October of 2006, where I lived for 14 years, before moving to GA in 2021. However, it was on my farm in SC during the 2006 Deer season, that I killed my first Deer, a Button Buck, with my 12 ga. Remington 1100. While I loved to Squirrel hunt and fish, I didn't seriously take up Deer hunting until high school. We had Deer on our farm in Centenary, SC, but by the time I would have a chance to go, I wouldn’t see anything but Does, and I really wanted my first deer to be a Buck, even if he was a little Buck.☺
Since my first deer harvest, deer hunting has become a huge passion of mine. When I’m not working, I’m in the woods or on the water. I love to hunt anything and everything from whitetails, exotics, upland birds, waterfowl, and predators, to turkeys, hogs, and varmints. However, turkey hunting by far is my most favorite! I love being able to call turkeys both with my natural voice and with friction calls in the anticipation of hearing the thunderous replies of those spring gobblers in the morning. There’s nothing like turkey hunting, and it’s my favorite hunting season of the year so far! However, I love to hunt all critters, and there are many animals, such as Bull Elk, Moose, and Mule Deer, just to name a few, that I haven’t had the opportunity to harvest yet. I look forward to the prospect of filling my freezers with the meat, and my home with the animals from the Wonders of Wildlife Museum, as Hunting is my Passion!
For 10 years, I served on the NWTF SC State Board of Directors as their State Women In The Outdoors Chairwoman, and I volunteered for several local NWTF Chapters in SC when I was local to that state. Thus, I’m extremely passionate about encouraging ladies to get involved in the outdoors, where they can learn more about hunting and fishing. Ladies who hunt are more likely to take a friend or their children hunting and encourage others to learn about the sport. Our children are our future hunters and conservationists. Thus, it’s our responsibility to teach everyone about nature and hunting, so we can ensure that our love for the outdoors is passed along to others.
In addition to being active in the hunting industry with various companies, I'm also a part of the Dead End Game Calls Road Crew Team. Mitchell Johnston and his family have not only been a blessing in my life, but great friends as well. Since 2012, I’ve been blessed to have cameo appearances with my friends on their shows, NWTF 365, Dead Dog Walkin’, & Skull Bound TV on the Pursuit & Sportsman’s Channels respectively. In 2016, I was accepted on the Kryptek Outdoors Women's Field Test Staff and inducted into the Kryptek Ladies Legion in 2017. Kryptek is not only the best camo on the market because of its durability, flexibility, and quality, but Kryptek is a Veteran Owned & Operated company, who is extremely supportive of our Veterans! I’m also on the Pro Staff of Nighthawk Pro Gear and various other companies in the outdoor industry that I respect and admire. When I'm not working full time in the animal feed industry, I'm either hunting or fishing in the great outdoors, or at home in GA with my husband, and our dog, Hank, and our cat, Otis.
Happy Hunting Y'all!
